Test case using Genus Care for independent living support

Genus Care Frame – Trial Feedback, October 2025.

Genus Care is regularly tested for trial cases. We would like to share one with you, performed by Gerard Molloy, Coordinator for Technology Enabled Care Services (TECS) at Cambridgeshire County Council. They recently trialled the Genus Care Frame and IRIS 4G Tracker with a service user (SU) supported by family carers. These are their findings:

Prior to the trial, the SU’s family visited three times daily — morning, lunchtime, and evening — to assist with medication, meals, and general wellbeing. While the support was minimal, it required significant time and coordination. The family had explored digital solutions, including phones and tablets, but hadn’t yet found a suitable option.

We introduced the Genus Care Frame and accompanying app as part of a 14-day trial. The SU responded positively, saying:

The non-clinical design was important to the SU, helping the device blend into the home environment.

Setup & Usability

  • The app is free to download via Google Play or the Apple Store.

  • Setup was straightforward: plug in the frame, power it on, and connect to Wi-Fi via the touchscreen.

  • Adding app users is simple, using one-time codes generated on the frame.

  • The SU and family found the system intuitive and easy to use.

Impact on Care

With the frame in place, the family reduced their visits to once daily. They used the app to:

  • Confirm morning activity via movement sensors.

  • Send photo reminders for medication.

  • Video call at lunchtime to check on meals and wellbeing.

This allowed the family to support the SU more flexibly, often during their own work breaks, improving both care and convenience.

Portal Features

While the family didn’t have direct access to the Genus portal during the trial, we demonstrated its capabilities — including sensor monitoring and customizable alerts. The family expressed interest in using the portal to set reminders for GP appointments and medication schedules.

Conclusion

The Genus Care Frame enabled a meaningful shift in how care was delivered — reducing travel, increasing independence, and enhancing communication. The family felt empowered and expressed enthusiasm for continued use, particularly with access to the portal.

This case clearly shows the positive outcome of using Genus Care to support independent living for elderly and people with special needs, making it a highly suitable (strategic) tool for housing assosiations and councils.
